The Japanese government announced on the 27th that it is "closely and significantly monitoring the series of developments in South Korea," in relation to the indictment of President Yoon Suk-yeol on charges of being the head of an insurrection.

Hayashi Yoshimasa, the Chief Cabinet Secretary and spokesperson for the Japanese government, stated in a press conference that morning, in response to a question about the Japanese government's view on President Yoon's indictment, "I will refrain from commenting on the domestic affairs of another country," while expressing this stance.

He mentioned, "Japan and South Korea are important neighboring countries that must cooperate as partners in addressing various challenges in the international community," and added, "I believe the importance of Japan-South Korea relations remains unchanged in the current strategic environment."

He further stated, "There are various developments in South Korea's domestic situation, but with this understanding, both countries need to make efforts," and added, "We will communicate closely with the South Korean government, including responses to the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea."

Previously, Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru also stated in a parliamentary speech on the 24th, "South Korea is an important neighboring country with which we must cooperate as partners," and expressed the intention to communicate closely with South Korea.
