Meeting with Seok Dong-hyeon... "No Intention to Prolong Martial Law"

"How is Her Health?"... Concern for Mrs. Kim

President Yoon Suk-yeol, who has been arrested and indicted on charges of being the leader of a rebellion, stated, "Why is this martial law considered a rebellion, how can it be a rebellion?" according to his legal team on the 28th.

Attorney Seok Dong-hyeon conveyed this after meeting with President Yoon, who is detained at the Seoul Detention Center, along with other lawyers. This is the first time President Yoon's stance on the indictment by the prosecution on the 26th has been communicated by his legal team.

According to Attorney Seok, President Yoon argued, "I proclaimed martial law under constitutional authority to inform and appeal to the sovereign people about the crisis, as I judged the nation to be in danger due to the parliamentary dictatorship dominated by the giant opposition party." He added, "I immediately lifted it following the National Assembly's demand for its termination as prescribed by the Constitution. Everything was done within the constitutional framework."

He further stated, "Was there any bloodshed? Was there even a single casualty? Did we arrest or drag out even one politician? Did we even attempt such actions? How can this be considered a rebellion?" according to Attorney Seok.

He also claimed that he never intended to maintain the martial law situation for long from the beginning.

President Yoon reportedly said, "If I intended to maintain martial law, there should have been a political program on how to operate the administration and judiciary under martial law, but there was no such program prepared or actually in place," according to Attorney Seok.

Additionally, he mentioned, "Even when deciding to proclaim martial law and giving the order, I anticipated that the National Assembly would immediately demand its termination upon proclamation, and I myself, regardless of the timing of the National Assembly's demand, never thought of prolonging the martial law situation," he conveyed.

Attorney Seok noted that President Yoon did not express any specific feelings about spending the Lunar New Year in detention as a sitting president, but he sensed a mix of emotions from his expression.

He added that the President did not say anything about his own hardships, but expressed concern about the country's future, saying, "I am more worried about the country's future, with many citizens struggling daily, wondering how difficult it must be to endure the cold and make a living, and whether the younger generation, who should be nurturing dreams, might be discouraged by reality."

Furthermore, he mentioned that Mrs. Kim Geon-hee's health has not been good recently, saying, "Since leaving the official residence, I haven't been able to see her face even once, and I'm worried about her health," according to Attorney Seok.
