The additional 10% tariff on Chinese products enforced by President Donald Trump took effect on the 4th without any delay. In response, China has begun to retaliate by launching an antitrust investigation against the American IT company, Google.

According to China's state-run CCTV on the 4th, the State Administration for Market Regulation announced that it has started an investigation into Google for alleged violations of the 'Antitrust Law'.

This announcement coincided with the implementation date of the US's additional tariffs on Chinese goods. The announcement was precisely timed to match Washington's time at midnight on the 4th. It is interpreted as a response to the US's imposition of an additional 10% tariff on Chinese products.

Last December, Chinese authorities also launched an antitrust investigation against NVIDIA. This action was interpreted as a response to the Joe Biden administration's successive measures to control exports of advanced industries to China.

Previously, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to impose an additional 10% tariff on Chinese imports starting from the 4th, which took effect at midnight (2 PM Korean time on the 4th). In response to the US's announcement of tariffs on Chinese goods, Chinese authorities immediately protested. The Ministry of Commerce announced that it would file a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against the US's unilateral tariff imposition, indicating retaliation by stating, "We will protect our national interests through corresponding measures."
